Poems
A distinction between the literary genres of lyric, epic and drama goes back to ancient Greece. In particularAristotle's Poetics was influential in this respect. Until the 18th century, the term lyric poetry (in the form of lyrical poetry)used as a generic term,Since the 19th century, it has also often been used as a synonym for poetry, poem and (less frequently) poetry.
The author of poetic texts formulates feelings and thoughts of a lyrical subject (lyrical self), which may or may not correspond to the author's perspective. Relationships between the subject and the world around it are often strongly reflected and abstracted. Lyrical texts contain many rhetorical devices, they are often rhythmic, rhymed and sometimes combined with music. Even in ancient Greece, the recitation of poetry was often accompanied by a lyre or kithara.
The term "poem" in particular originally referred to everything written down; a meaning that can still be somewhat guessed at in the word "Dichtung". Since around the 18th century, the term has only been used in its current sense for poetic texts.
